A night at the Grand Chateau Tongariro

A weekend at the Chateau is a great short break away and what better way to get there than by train. Enjoy scenery not otherwise seen by road as you travel through the farmlands of the Waikato and King Country.

Departing The Strand, Auckland at 7.45am, the train makes stops at Papakura and Hamilton to uplift passengers.Morning tea and lunch is enjoyed on the train as you journey to the heart of the North Island. Amongst the many rail features is the famous Raurimu Spiral taking the train up onto the Central Plateau and into National Park where you disembark and transfer by coach to Chateau Tongariro.

Enjoy a relaxing evening at the Chateau including dinner. Sunday morning following a leisurely breakfast take a walk to the Taranaki Falls or join our bus trip to 'The Top of the Bruce' and skifields. Returning to the Chateau enjoy a light lunch before you are transferred to National Park for the return journey to Auckland by train, arriving at The Strand, Auckland at 6.45pm.

  • Heritage Room: $560.00 per person twin share
  • Tongariro Room: $590.00 per person twin share
  • Single Room Supplement $100.00

If you are travelling by yourself and would like to share a room, we will do our utmost to match you with a suitable participant. In the event we are unable to match you with someone, the single room supplement will be charged.
