Taranaki Garden 1
27th October - 1st November 2022
Thursday 27th  Auckland to New Plymouth   
Dinner

Departing from Auckland we head south to the Hamilton Gardens. The collection of gardens emphasise the different types of design showcasing the cultural meaning context of gardens over the past 4,000 years.  Arriving late afternoon in New Plymouth, relax and unpack for your 3 night stay.

Friday 28th  Town Gardens & Pukeiti
Breakfast, Dinner

This morning we visit New Plymouth's town gardens and see just how a small space can be transformed into a delightful and peaceful little garden. This afternoon we visit Pukeiti, New Zealand's premier rhododendron garden set on the lower slopes of Mt Taranaki.

Saturday 29th   Country Gardens
Breakfast, Dinner

Today we visit some of the regions most beautiful and outstanding country gardens including: Cairnhill - a vibrant, colourful garden framed by a canopy of deciduous trees underplanted with hosts and heuchera, and Stanleigh with views to both the coast and mountain on fine days.
 
Sunday 30th  New Plymouth - Palmerston North
Breakfast, Dinner

Today we travel south and stop at a variety of small and large gardens, all with interesting plantings and some unique design features. Late afternoon we arrive in Palmerston North for our overnight stay.

Monday 31st   Palmerston North - Taupo
Breakfast, Dinner

This morning we travel to Kimbolton, north of Feilding where we visit Cross Hills Gardens, which are ablaze with colour. Explore the 7 hectares of gardens featuring New Zealand's largest and most comprehensive collections of flowering rhododendrons and azaleas. 
Tonight we stay at Taupo.

Tuesday 1st  Taupo - Auckland
Breakfast

Leaving Taupo we continue up SH1 stopping at Tirau before continuing onto Zealong Tea Estate for a tour, tea experience and delicious High Tea. From Zealong we head to Woodlands Historic Homestead and Gardens. We return to Auckland arriving approximately 5:30pm.

  • The festival programme is released late July and as such some gardens mentioned in the itinerary may not be participating in this year's festival. Gardens will be substituted with a similar style garden.
  • Twilight Travel reserves the right to alter the itinerary and gardens due to operational and logistical requirements.
  • Gardens, tours and sightseeing may involve walking over uneven ground  and steps. This tour is not suitable for wheelchairs and walking frames.
