New Year in the Hawkes Bay

Wednesday 29th Auckland – Rotorua

Dinner

From Auckland, we travel to Rotorua where we join the Rotorua Duck Tour. Travelling in a WWII amphibious landing craft, explore the city sights and landmarks before driving out to the spectacular Green & Blue lakes where we leave the road and splash down for a cruise without having to leave our vehicle. Tonight we stay at the Geyserland Hotel overlooking the mud pools and Pohutu geyser of Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve.

Thursday 30th Rotorua - Napier

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Today travel through to Taupo stopping on route at Wai-o-tapu where we view the Lady Knox geyser that plays daily, reaching heights of up to 20 metres. Explore the thermal reserve, one of NZ’s most colourful and diverse volcanic areas. We enjoy a picnic lunch on the banks of the Waikato River before continuing to Napier. On arrival unpack for your 3 night stay. Located on the waterfront, the hotel is a short walk to the central shopping area.

Friday 31st Sightseeing

This morning we join the Art Deco Guided Walk. The walk takes in the unique 1930’s architecture which arose after Napier’s fire and earthquake in February 1931. This afternoon we have a tour of Sileni Estate followed by a wine tasting.

 

Saturday 1st January Sightseeing

This morning we join the Gannet Beach Adventure to Cape Kidnappers. An adventure not to missed we are transported by tractor and comfortable cushioned trailer along the beach to Cape Kidnappers. Guides show us the fascinating geology, earthquake fault lines and fossils. On the return journey a stop is made at the Black Reef colony – the largest on the cape.

This afternoon is free for you to explore the Napier CBD, take a walk along the boardwalk or browse the shops.

 

Sunday 2nd Napier – Auckland

Today we return to Auckland stopping in Hamilton to visit the Hamilton Gardens. Arrive back in Auckland at approximately 6pm.
