Friday 23 Auckland – Wellington
Departing from Auckland on the Overlander train we travel South on the main trunk line to Wellington. Among the many highlights of today’s journey is the Raurimu Spiral and spectacular scenery of the central North Island. Arriving in Wellington in the early evening we are transferred to the hotel for our 4 night stay.Lunch and Dinner Bay Plaza Hotel, Wellington Saturday 24 Wellington - free day Buffet Breakfast and Dinner Today is free for you to explore the city, take in the festivities with some Christmas shopping or relax in Oriental Bay. Te Papa has a new exhibition— “Unveiled: 200 years of Wedding Fashion” featuring dresses from the Victoria & Albert Museum of London. Admission tickets are included. Sunday 25 Christmas Day Sightseeing Buffet Breakfast, Picnic Lunch and Christmas Dinner After a leisurely breakfast, we join a Wellington City Highlights tour. The tour takes in some of Wellington’s most famous landmarks and icons including Parliament Buildings and the Beehive and visits the most spectacular vantage points for views of the city and harbour. A picnic lunch is enjoyed before returning to the hotel mid afternoon. This evening enjoy a sumptuous Christmas Dinner with all the traditional trimmings. Monday 26 Wairarapa Sightseeing Buffet Breakfast,Lunch and Buffet Dinner Today we head over the Rimutaka Ranges to Featherston, Martinborough and onto Cape Palliser Bay - home of the largest fur seal colony in the North Island. Lunch is enjoyed at the Lake Ferry Hotel, the most southern North Island hotel. On our return a stop is made for wine tasting at a premium Martinborough vineyard. Tuesday 27 Wellington – Auckland (or your hometown) Buffet Breakfast This morning is free before transferring to Wellington Domestic Airport for your homeward flight.
